FB453.5 Contribute to the making ready of the closing process

You must show that you:

1 Check that you have all the details for the job

Assist in the checking of materials for the job

3

Promptly report to your manager if the materials provided is not correct or sufficient 

4 Work safely following the safe working practices

Assist in the checking of gluing, stitching and taping instructions so that they match the job details

Assist in making the closing processes ready to run safely and efficiently so that:

  • Materials are fed squarely into the machine
  • The position of glue points, stitching and taping is correct
  • Variations in gluing, stitching and taping positions are within your company allowances
  • The process runs at the required speed
7 Assist in the checking of production samples so that they match the required standard
8 Make adjustments when the standards are not met
9 Promptly report to your manager if the standards cannot be met

You must understand:

What details you need for the job

K2 The sequence of set up tasks for required finish
K3 How to synchronize the relevant units
K4 The principles of gluing, stitching and taping
K5 The types of glues, stitching wire and tape
K6 The principles of glue tack adhesion
K7 The risks associated with making ready closing processes and how to avoid them
K8 What the common gluing, stitching and taping faults are, what causes them and how to correct them
K9 The emergency shut down procedures

Performance evidence

You must show that you can contribute to making ready closing processes consistently over a period of time.

Your evidence must show that:

You obtain the following materials:

  • Fibreboard sheets
  • Glues
  • Stitching wires
  • Tape
R2

You can confirm that the process is ready for production by:

  • Visual examination
  • Test run
  • Checking the control settings
R3

You check the quality of samples against your company's quality standards for:

  • The position of glue points, stitching and taping
  • The gluing and stitching process covers the manufactures joint
  • The stitches are fully clenched
  • The tape covers the joint
