Control fibreboard conversion processes

FB451.1 Run conversion processes

You must show that you:

1 Start up and shut down the processes safely and correctly
2

Run the conversion processes:

  • At the required speed
  • Safely and efficiently
3 Keep up the supply of materials throughout the run
4

Accurately identify production faults which result in:

  • Unacceptable variation in cut size or position of creases, print, stitching or gluing
  • Marking damage or distortion to the product
5 Regularly check that quality standards are met
6 Correct faults which it is your job to remedy
7

Promptly report any faults which it is not your job to correct

8 Follow the correct procedure for the removal of waste
9 Accurately record production and quality assurance details
10 Stack work safely using the approved method
11 Prepare product for transit

You must understand:

K2 Your company's production efficiencies
K3 The principles of cutting, creasing, printing and closing
K4 The risk associated with running machines and how to avoid them
K5 How to synchronise the relevant units
K6 The emergency shut down procedures
K7 When formes, print stereos, creasing tools need replacing
K8 The common cutting, creasing, print and closing faults, what causes them and how to correct them
K9 What other faults may occur during production
K10 How to recognise when you should correct faults and when you should ask for help
K11 To whom you report faults
K12 The procedures for the removal of waste from your machine
K13 What production and quality assurance records you are required to keep
K14 What the safe lifting and handling techniques are
K15 The Company's identification and labelling systems

Performance evidence

You must show that you can run conversion processes consistently, over a period of time.

Your evidence must show that:

R1

You check the quality of samples against your company's quality standards for:

  • The position of cuts, creases, print, stitching and gluing
  • The cuts and creases are clean
  • The print is correct shade
  • The stitching and gluing is correct
R2

You identify and report the following types of faults:

  • Damage to output
  • Output out of specification
  • Recurring process faults
  • Process faults which require others expertise to rectify
R3

You stack produced work safely following the prescribed method:

  • Produced work is correctly identified and protected following the Company's quality standard
R4 You can complete your Company's procedures for maintaining production and quality assurance records
