Control fibreboard manufacturing processes

FB450.1 Make ready fibreboard processes

You must show that you:

1 Check that you have all the details required for the job
2 Check that you have enough material of the right type for the job
3 Promptly report to your manager, if the material provided is not correct or sufficient
4 Check that your work area is safe and ready for production
5 Prepare and load papers so that they are aligned to the fibreboard machinery, to run efficiently and safely
6 Make adjustments when standards are not met
7 Report promptly to your manager if the standards cannot be met
8 Identify unused materials

Make ready fibreboard processes so that:

  • slits and scores are made cleanly and correctly
  • knife chops are clean and correct
  • flutes are formed correctly
  • adhesion is adequate
  • steam pressures are correct
  • shingle is correct
  • stacks are formed correctly
10 Correct mechanical faults which is your job to remedy
11 Promptly report mechanically faults which are not your job to correct

K8 What the common paper faults are, what causes them and how to avoid them
K9 Adhesive viscosity
K10 The material identification systems
K11 The company's quality standards
K12 The procedures for removal of waste during setting up

Performance evidence

You must show that you can make ready fibreboard processes consistently, over a period of time.

Your evidence must show:

  • Papers
  • Adhesives

You can confirm that processes are ready for production by:

  • Checking the settings
R3

You check the quality of papers against the company standard and job details for:

  • Correct type
  • Required standard
