Lead the work of teams and individuals to achieve their objectives (MCI)

C12.3 Provide feedback to teams and individuals on their work

You must show that you:

1 provide feedback to team members in a situation and in a form and manner most likely to maintain and improve performance
2 give feedback which is clear and is based on an objective assessment of team members' work
3 give feedback which recognises team members' achievements and provides constructive suggestions and encouragement for improving work
4 give feedback in a way which shows respect for individuals
5 treat all feedback to individuals and teams confidentiality
6 give opportunities to team members to respond to feedback and recommend how their work could be improved

You must understand:

K1

how to motivate team members and gain their commitment by providing feedback

K2 how to provide both positive and negative feedback to staff on their performance
K3 how to choose an appropriate time and place to give feedback to teams and individuals
K4 the importance of providing clear and accurate feedback to team members on their performance and your role and responsibilities on relation to this
K5 the importance of good communication skills when providing feedback
K6 the importance of being encouraged when providing feedback to team members and showing respect for those involved
K7 how to provide feedback in a way which encourages your team members to feel that you respect them
K8 why it is important to provide constructive suggestions on how performance can be improved
K9 the importance of giving those involved the opportunity to provide constructive suggestions on how to improve their work
K10 the principles of confidentiality when providing feedback - which people should receive which pieces of information

Performance evidence

You show that you can provide feedback to teams and individuals on their work consistently, over a period of time.

You must show, in your performance, that:

R1

you provide both positive and negative feedback

R2

you provide both spoken and written feedback

R3

you provide feedback in at least two of the following types of situation

  • during normal day-to-day activities
  • when required to maintain motivation, morale and effectiveness
  • during formal appraisals
  • at team meetings and briefings
  • during confidential discussions of work

You must, however, convince your assessor that you have the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to perform competently in respect of all types of situation, listed above.
