Lead the work of teams and individuals to achieve their objectives (MCI)

C12.2 Assess the work of teams and individuals

You must show that you:

1 explain the purpose of assessment clearly to all involved
2 give opportunities to team members to assess their own work
3 assess work at times most likely to maintain and improve effective performance
4 base your assessments on sufficient, valid and reliable information
5 make your assessments objectively against clear, agreed criteria

You must understand:

K1

how to assess the work of teams and individuals and processes in the workplace which can support such assessment

K2 reasons why it is important to assess the ongoing work of teams and individuals and the manager's role and responsibility in relation to this
K3 the range of purposes of work assessment, why they may play a role in an organisation and how they apply to the manager's own situation
K4 why it is important to be clear oneself about the purpose of assessment and to communicate this effectively to those involved
K5 why it is important to provide opportunities to team members to assess their own work and how this can be encouraged and enabled
K6 the types of information needed to assess the work of teams and individuals and how this information should be gathered and validated
K7 the principles of fair and objective assessment of work and how to ensure this is achieved

Performance evidence

You show that you can assess the work of teams and individuals consistently, over a period of time.

You must show, in your performance, that

R1

your assessments have at least two of the following types of purpose

  • assuring that objectives have been achieved
  • assuring that quality and customer requirements have been met
  • appraising team or individual performance
  • recognising competent performance and achievement
R2

you use at least one of the following types of assessment

  • specific to one activity or objective
  • general to overall performance of the following types of information
R3

you base your assessments on both of the following types of information

  • qualitative
  • quantitative

You must, however, convince your assessor that you have the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to perform competently in respect of all types of purpose and assessment, listed above.
