Train new operators

005.2 Train new operators to production, quality and performance standards

You must show that you:

1 apply a structured training programme to meet individuals' training needs
2 clearly explain what is expected of trainees to new operators and others in your work area
3 give information and instruction to trainees clearly
4 demonstrate best working practices in ways which help them to learn effectively
5 demonstrate how equipment is operated to manufacturer's recommendations and company standards
6 support learners in practising their skills under safe working conditions
7 regularly monitor trainees' progress and their ability to cope with the demands of work and the working environment
8 accurately record details of training activity and trainee progress, as required by your company

You must understand:

K1

the extent and limits of your responsibility for training new operators

K2 your company's structured training programme for new operators
K3 how to put trainees at ease
K4 how to demonstrate working practices and the operation of equipment to trainees
K5 demonstration techniques, and how to select ones which are appropriate to the individual's training needs and the tasks and equipment being demonstrated
K6 questioning techniques
K7 types of support which enable people to practice skills
K8 the health and safety risks which arise in your work area and your company's health and safety procedures

Performance evidence

You must show that you can train new operators to production quality and performance standards consistently, over a period of time.

Your evidence must show that:

your training activities cover the knowledge and skills required for

  • the operation of equipment/machinery
  • quality control
  • fault finding and correction
  • communication with others in the workplace
  • health and safety procedures
  • environmental protection
R2

you explain what is expected of trainees to

  • the trainees
  • operators working with trainees
  • others who will come into contact with trainees
