002 - Overview

To achieve your unit certificate, you must show that you can 

002.1 Reduce risks to yourself and other
002.2 Take action to deal with accidents and emergencies
002.3 Agree and use a plan to develop your skills

You must show that you can deal with fellow workers and visitors in ways which maintain good working relationships This involves:

  • being helpful to others;
  • organising your work so that you are an effective part of the team;
  • communicating clearly with others.

You also show that you have an understanding of your company's products, services and customers. You do this by finding out about your company, and the sector of the printing industry in which it operates. You also increase your awareness of the printing industry as a whole.

Finally, you agree and action a plan to improve your skills. This involves:

  • finding out what skills you should improve;
  • planning how to go about this, with your manager;
  • implementing your plan;
  • reviewing your progress and updating your plan regularly.

Collecting the evidence for this unitYour performance evidence must show that you have covered all of the statements in the You must show that section in each element, and must be the result of real work activities in actual production situations. Simulation is not acceptable for this unit.

Your assessor will need to be satisfied that you have the necessary understanding specified in each 'K' list. Where this is not evident from your performance, you may be asked oral or written questions, or to write a short report.

You may need to provide other information to support your performance evidence. Here are some examples:

  • your action plan to develop your skills
  • updated actions plans
  • written or spoken reports describing
    • how you helped colleagues
    • when and how you sought help from colleagues
    • improvements to the production process you have suggested. These will be improvements in the work you do or the way things are organised in your work area, e.g. how waste material is disposed of, how materials are handled. You are not expected to suggest major proposals for change in working practices or the production process, although suggestions on this scale, when acceptable to your manager, may be used as evidence.
    • your company's products and services
